Choose wisely. When you purchase milk or dark chocolate leeches you are voting for who will survive. We can only make one variety going forwards.

How were the leeches made?

Hand made in the UK to my original design, these chocolate medicinal leeches (Hirudo medicinalis) have been a joy to sculpt. The wriggling poses and blood sucking shapes have been carefully observed and meticulously modelled in clay before making the moulds. They are cast in delicious, quality chocolate and hand painted to give that glistening finish.

Are the leeches realistic?

As always, I passed them by someone with in-depth knowledge of the creature for approval before going ahead. My sculpts were checked out by the wonderful Robert D. Hicks, PhD. He is the former Director of the Mütter Museum and Historical Medical Library of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia. Who also gave me this quote:

"The medicinal leech—Hirudo medicinalis—has been used for healing in many cultures for thousands of years. Of over 600 species of leech, only a handful consume blood. Known as the "companionable creature" during the 19th century because of its painless and calm-inducing use, the medicinal leech today is found in most hospitals. It remains one of the most effective tools in microsurgery and skin grafts.

So much for the science. These chocolate leeches are just as pretty and twice as tasty as the real thing!"

This service is available Monday-Thursday if you order before 10am. 

Orders placed before 10am Monday to Thursday will be dispatched that day with arrival the following day by 1pm.

Orders placed Friday to Sunday will be dispatched Monday for delivery on Tuesday (although we will try to dash out to the Post Office before this if we can)
